STUDENTS: Want to save thousands of $ on your education in the US?

Oct 26, 2020

Rachel Good, the Assistant Director of International Education at Olympic College, spoke to Findadmission exclusively, disclosing that there are savings of up to $30,000 per year to be made should international students take a certain route into the higher education system in America.

International tuition fees can sometimes be in excess of $40,000 per year without financial help, but that is where Findadmission come in. Good spoke to a Findadmission representative over on our YouTube channel, advising us on how international students can spend less than half of that amount and get the same quality education as before.

During the interview, Good introduced herself and Olympic College (OC), before going on to explain the benefits of using a community college. If you don’t know already, a community college allows students to spend two years earning an associates degree, before transferring them to a four-year college for their final two years to earn their bachelors degree.

The savings of completing your degree this way could be the difference for most international students between studying abroad, or studying in their home country. On average, tuition for a year at Olympic College is approximately $9,500 US, whereas attending a four-year university for all four years would cost between $20,000 – $40,000 per year. Studying at a community college such as OC will save you between $10,000 - $30,000 a year, or $20,000 - $60,000 over two years. Who wouldn’t want a saving such as that, especially for the same degree?

But wait, there’s more; with OC, all it takes is a $50 application fee, and you could also be awarded a scholarship of $1,900. This award can be applied for multiple times throughout the year, which you can read about under the ‘Key Facts’ section of their Findadmission profile.

Olympic College is a public two-year community college that educates more than 13,000 students per year. Founded in 1946, the college has three campuses in Bremerton, Poulsbo and Shelton, and serves a population of 280,000 residents who are living in Kitsap and Mason Counties.

Public colleges are also known to have the added benefit of containing smaller classes (in the case of Olympic, classes with 20-25 students), which might help international students adjust to moving abroad. This would allow their talents to be more easily recognised in this new environment.

However, Good wasn’t just here to tell us tips about how to save students money – she also advised that international students could save time as well. Students can apply to Olympic College as early as 16, and earn both their associates degree and their high school diploma at the same time. This ultimately means that at the graduation of your Bachelors degree, should a student have taken this route, they will be two years younger than other American students.

If this study route appeals to you, be sure to sign up to Findadmission if you haven’t already; with us, you’ll be able to compare world-wide institutes by tuition fees, location and more. If you’re already signed up with us, then you can find out more about other community colleges available via your Findadmission Dashboard once you’re logged in.
